___________

PLOTS

• The Plot essentially consists of the love triangle involving ORSINO, VIOLA and OLIVIA. Duke Orsino loves Lady Olivia who loves Orsino’s emissary Caesario (the disguised Viola) who loves Orsino. And, like the COMEDY OF ERRORS, the play concludes with a series of mix-ups between VIOLA (Cesario) and her twin brother SEBASTIAN (both of whom believe the other lost in a shipwreck).

• The Subplot consists in the “gulling” of the self-important MALVOLIO by MARIA, SIR TOBY, SIR ANDREW, & FABIAN.

FESTE, the clown, navigates freely between the two plots.
