1 HENRY IV was entered in the Stationers Register on 25 Feb. 1598. Q1 appeared shortly after but only a fragment remains extant (1.3.201–2.2.111 / TLN 525–847). The complete authoritative text is therefore that of Q2, also from 1598, entitled
Contrary to the Quarto titles of 2 & 3 HENRY VI, it does not seem as if 1 HENRY IV was — at the outset — meant to be followed by 2 HENRY IV (indeed, 1 HENRY IV might itself be perceived as an apt serio-comic conclusion to RICHARD II)
Oxford editors believe that the copy for Q1 (of which Q2 seems a re-print) was most likely a scribal transcript of Shakespeare’s foul papers (and not the foul papers themselves).
The F text (which introduces the subdivision of Acts & Scenes) was probably set from a copy of the 1613 Q6 that may have been slightly annotated from a promptbook (or a transcript thereof).
Subdivision of ACTS & SCENES are according to F (there are no subdivisions in Q1–7)

As for PRINCE HAL, he is something of a chameleon character since he apparently belongs to the CLOWNS until his “private conference” with the King his father (3.2 / TLN 1814) at which point he manifestly also belongs to the KING’S PARTY.
